How to Read a DC Parcel Number

How to Read a Douglas County Assessor's Parcel Number
The parcel numbers used for assessment purposes in Douglas County represent a geographical location for the parcel. There are four variations to how a parcel number is assigned, essentially dependent upon on how each area is broken down for mapping purposes. Three methods involve sectional breakdown: eighths of a section, half of section, or a full section. The fourth method breaks down areas by half townships.

Parcel Township & Range
In all cases the first four numbers of a parcel number reference the township and range.

  • Example: 1220-xx-xxx-xxx, Township 12N, Range 20E
Section Indicator
In all cases except the half township breakdown the fifth and sixth numbers indicate the section.
  • Example:1220-15-xxx-xxx, Township 12N, Range 20E, Section 15
When a section is broken into eighths, the seventh number references where the parcel is within the section.
  • Example: 1220-15-3xx-xxx, Township 12N, Range 20E, Section 15, N1/2 of the SW1/4
    • 1 = N1/2 NW1/4
    • 2 = S1/2 NW1/4
    • 3 = N1/2 SW1/4
    • 4 = S1/2 SW1/4
    • 5 = N1/2 NE1/4
    • 6 = S1/2 NE1/4
    • 7 = N1/2 SE1/4
    • 8 = S1/2 SE1/4
Group & Individual Parcel Identifiers
The eighth and ninth numbers are combined with the seventh number as 'block' numbers for grouping parcels. The tenth, eleventh, and twelfth numbers are the individual parcel identifier.

Half Sections
When a section is broken in half, the seventh, eighth and ninth numbers reference either the north or south half of the section.
  • Example: 1220-21-001-004, Township 12N, Range 20E, Section 21, north half
    • 001 represents N1/2 of the section
    • 002 represents S1/2 of the section
Full Sections
For full sections the seventh, eighth and ninth numbers do not represent a locational reference and are assigned '0s'.
  • Example: 1220-22-000-002, Township 12N, Range 20E, Section 22
Half Townships
Half townships are referenced similarly to half sections.
  • Example: 1322-00-001-001, Township 13N, Range 22E, North ½
    • 001 represents N1/2 of the township
    • 002 represents S1/2 of the township
