Our Mission

To protect the health and welfare of the community, by maintaining rabies control programs. To educate the public on rabies prevention and responsible pet ownership. To provide innovative, caring customer service for our expanding community through education, enforcement, and the promotion of humane ethics. To maintain successful adoptions of unwanted or released strays.

Responsibilities Include

  • Issuing dog licenses as required by law
  • Impounding stray dogs
  • Enforcing animal control ordinances
  • Finding good homes for shelter dogs and cats
  • Investigation of animal bites, cruelty and nuisance complaints
Douglas County Animal Services enforces Title 6 of the Douglas County Code. If you would like to report an animal code violation, or if you have an animal related emergency, please call the Douglas County Dispatch Center at (775) 782-5126, and an Animal Services Officer will contact you. Please do not report animal complaints via email.
