HOW TO PREVENT YOUR PET FROM GETTING LOST!

Spay or neuter your pets as soon as possible. Both male and female pets that are not spayed or neutered are much more likely to go looking for companionship and produce unwanted litters.

Many dogs do not like the sound of thunder or fireworks, so please keep all dogs indoors during thunderstorms, on the Fourth of July and/or other local events involving fireworks or loud noises.

Keep your dogs in a fenced yard or in the house when left unattended. Do not allow them to be roaming around freely.

IMPROVE YOUR PETS CHANCES OF RETURNING HOME!

Get a personal ID tag for your pet to wear. Remember to keep your information up-to-date! Other options are embroidered pet collars with tag pockets or writing you information on the collar with a sharpie.

Microchip your pets! Be sure to keep information current. If you have lost the information, bring your pet in to the Shelter. We will be able to provide you with the information you need.

Always make use your dog is up to up to date on its license. Cats are not required to be licensed in Douglas County. Dogs are required to wear their license tag. This allows up to provide finders the pets owners contact information to reunite them.

Have the correct gear for your pet during walks as well as car rides. This will prevent them from dashing if something catches their attention.

Pets should get to know neighbors and the neighborhood! This can prevent them from wandering and also allow your neighbor to help return your pet back to their home.

Always try to work on your pet's behavioral and emotional issues! Provide them with enrichments, attention, exercise, toys and puzzles. Training your pets help keep them engaged and create positive behaviors!
